In Nicholas Nixon's series "The Brown Sisters," the same four figures (the eponymous sisters) stand in the same order for 42 sequential photographs, taken over a period of 42 years. Seeing the series in person for the first time, I was struck by how, for all the apparent similarities between the images, their sameness ends at the composition.
